Tosyl-L-alanine is a non-protein amino acid that has been shown to inhibit the formation of chloromethyl ketones and their toxic effects in humans. It is used for the treatment of pancreatitis, as well as other lysine-containing proteins. Tosyl-L-alanine is also used to inactivate casein, which is a milk protein. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on energy metabolism in human lymphocytes, as well as on solid-phase synthesis of cellular proteins. This compound also inhibits the activity of human enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase and phosphodiesterase.
