Description:Tridecafluoro-tetradecane is a fluorinated hydrocarbon that is used to produce silicone. It is a non-flammable, colorless liquid with an odorless odor. Tridecafluoro-tetradecane causes retinal degeneration in vivo and histological changes in human corneal endothelial cells in vitro. It also has the ability to induce proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines in human macrophages. The effects of tridecafluoro-tetradecane on the retina have been studied using fluorescein angiography and pharmacokinetic analysis. These studies suggest that tridecafluoro-tetradecane may be an effective treatment for retinal diseases such as proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).
