Undecafluorohexanoyl fluoride is an organic solvent that has properties similar to those of fluorinated solvents. It has been shown to be resistant to oxidation and hydrolysis and is used in the production of monomers, such as polyfluoroolefins. Undecafluorohexane is a precursor for the synthesis of perfluorinated compounds, such as fluorocarbons, which are inert, non-toxic and have low volatility. These properties make perfluoroalkyls useful for a variety of applications including refrigerants, heat transfer fluids, fire-fighting foam and coatings.
Undecafluorohexanoyl fluoride reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form a gaseous hydrogen chloride. This reaction occurs at room temperature in a reaction vessel under pressure or in the absence of pressure. The byproducts are hydrocarbon groups, peroxides and fatty acid esters.
