Violuric acid monohydrate is a natural phenolic compound that is found in wheat and rye. Violuric acid monohydrate has been shown to be an effective antioxidant, which can scavenge reactive oxygen species and inhibit lipid peroxidation. It also has a transfer mechanism that is similar to the p450 system, which may be responsible for its ability to stimulate the oxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons. Violuric acid monhyde has been shown to have a treatment effect on the ovaries in mice, with increased weight and decreased ovarian cyst development. This may be due to its ability to inhibit chain reactions by hydroxyl group or hydrogen bond interactions with free radicals. Violuric acid monohydrate is also used as a synthetic antioxidant in delignification processes. The optical properties of violuric acid monohydrate are linear response with incubation time.
