Name:
1-Methyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-²-carboline-1-carboxylic acid
Description:

1-Methyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-²-carboline-1-carboxylic acid is a chemical compound and a β-carboline. It is used as an experimental drug in animal studies to study the effects of 1-methyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-[1]² carboline on brain chemistry. In rats it has been shown to be metabolized intracellularly into methyl ester derivatives that are excreted into urine. Injected doses of 1MTCA can be toxic to the brain and cause seizures at high doses. This compound also has time dependent effects on cerebral glucose utilization and pyruvic acid levels in rat brain tissue.
