Description:5,7-Dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one is a cytotoxic agent that is used in vivo to study tumor models. It has been shown to be potent and cytotoxic against tumor cells. The drug inhibits the growth of colon cancer cells by binding to the DNA chain at the level of purine nucleoside phosphorylase. 5,7-Dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one also inhibits carboxamides and lipophilic substituents in the cell membrane. This drug is also an inhibitor that blocks purine nucleoside phosphorylase and prevents synthesis of purines from ATP and hypoxanthine.
