Description

BQ 788 is an endothelin-A receptor antagonist. It binds to the endothelin-1 receptor and prevents it from binding to its natural ligand, endothelin-1. BQ 788 has been shown to reduce the cardiac effects of endothelin-1 and also inhibit the gene expression of endothelin-1 in human platelets by binding to a different site on the receptor. The pharmacological action of BQ 788 is thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of cytosolic Ca2+ that is involved in cellular signaling pathways.
