Product Information
2-Oxo-1,3-benzoxathiol-5-yl acetate (OBX) is a drug that inhibits the activity of glycogen phosphorylase. OBX has been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of hyperglycemia in diabetic patients. OBX binds to the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor at the plasma membrane and blocks its function. The binding alters membrane structure and decreases cell proliferation. The molecule is an organic compound with a molecular formula CHClO. It has two hydrogen bonds: one between the carbonyl oxygen and the amine nitrogen, and one between the carboxylic acid oxygen and the amine nitrogen. It also contains a carbon tetrachloride group. OBX has been shown to have vibrational, molecular, and hydrogen bond interactions with molecules such as glycogen phosphorylase. OBX is lipid soluble and can cross cell membranes easily because it can dissolve into cell membranes without disrupting
