It is also believed to have some cytotoxic properties due to its ability to bind lipids. 4-Butylbenzamide enhances the partitioning of hydrocortisone through the skin by connecting with keratinocytes and binding with their membranes. This interaction between 4-butylbenzamide and keratinocytes leads to an increase in lipid solubility, which makes hydrocortisone more readily available for cellular uptake. Microscopy studies have shown that 4-butylbenzamide binds to keratinocytes at the cell membrane level, where it interacts with the lipids found there.
