GDC-0834 is a new investigational drug that has been shown in animal studies to have anti-leukemic activity. GDC-0834 is an orally active, potent inhibitor of the enzyme aminopeptidase N (APN). It was found to be effective in inhibiting the growth of human leukemia cells in vitro and in vivo, and to reduce the number of circulating leukemic cells in humans with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The mechanism by which GDC-0834 inhibits APN is not understood, but it may involve a nucleophilic attack on the amide group of the enzyme.
