Tellurium(IV) bromide is a halide that has been used as a reactive template molecule in the synthesis of other tellurium compounds. It can be synthesized by reacting tellurium with hydrochloric acid and phosphorus pentachloride. The reaction products are analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and molecular modeling studies. Tellurium(IV) bromide is an important precursor in the preparation of glycol esters and metathesis reactions. It has also been shown to react with a number of other halides to form new compounds.
