The synthesis of ∆9,11-Dehydro-17α-cyanomethyl estradiol has been shown to be dependent on cytochrome P450 enzymes. This metabolite has estrogenic properties that may contribute to its activation. ∆9,11-Dehydro-17α-cyanomethyl estradiol is found in wastewater effluent as a result of drug metabolism.
