Aranidipine is a calcium channel blocker that acts by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells. Aranidipine has been shown to be effective in reducing high blood pressure, improving left ventricular function and reducing the risk of stroke. Aranidipine can cause dizziness, headache, hypotension, bradycardia and heart block. These side effects may be reduced when aranidipine is combined with other drugs such as nifedipine or benzalkonium chloride. Aranidipine should not be administered during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless necessary. The safety of aranidipine in children has not been established.
