Cycloheptatriene molybdenum tricarbonyl (COT) is an organometallic compound that contains a metal carbonyl group. The reactivity of this compound is determined by the electron-donating ability of the ligands on the metal, which can be either aldehyde groups or alkyl groups. This compound has been shown to have a high reaction rate with fluorine and can be used as an activator for other catalysts in organic reactions. The COT molecule is chiral, meaning it can exist in two different forms. These two forms are mirror images of each other and cannot be superimposed over one another. The form that predominates depends on the temperature, pressure, and solvent conditions.
