Bis(cyclopentadienyl)dimethylzirconium(IV) is a metallocene that is used as an activator for alkyl substituents. It has been shown to activate cyclopentadienyl ligands in a systematic way, and can be used as a precursor for other metal-containing compounds. Bis(cyclopentadienyl)dimethylzirconium(IV) is also one of the first metallocenes to be studied with molecular simulation techniques, and has been shown to be an effective catalyst for ethylene polymerization. The kinetic and thermodynamic properties of this compound are well understood due to its mathematical model which was developed by researchers at the University of California, Irvine. This heterocyclic compound exhibits high vapor pressure under standard conditions, which makes it easy to purify by distillation.
