3-Deoxy-3,3-difluoro-1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-a-D-glucofuranose is a sugar. It is a glycosylation product of the natural amino acid lysine with glucose. This modification increases the solubility and stability of lysine in biological systems. 3DG can be methylated to form 3DG monomethyl ether and 3DG dimethyl ether. Both these derivatives are also used as a fluorescent probe for detecting saccharides at low concentrations. 3DG can be fluorinated to form 3DG difluoromethyl ether, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. These properties may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting prostaglandin synthase activity.
