2,3-O-Isopropylidene-a-L-sorbofuranose is a furanose ring that can form both intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The five-membered and six-membered conformations are the most stable of the conformational isomers, although there are many different possible configurations. 2,3-O-Isopropylidene-a-L-sorbofuranose is an analog of D-(+)-fructose and has been used to produce analogs of D-(+)-fructose. This compound has also been used in carbohydrate chemistry as a reagent for the synthesis of other carbohydrates.
