Tetracycline 10-O-b-D-galactopyranoside is a tetracycline antibiotic that has been modified with a fluorinating agent to increase its water solubility. Tetracycline 10-O-b-D-galactopyranoside is the most active of the tetracyclines for the treatment of infections caused by mycoplasmas, rickettsias, and chlamydiae. It inhibits protein synthesis in these bacteria by binding to ribosomes. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
