It is a modified, phosphoramidite precursor of the antiviral drug AZT and has been shown to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in vitro. 3’-Azido-3’-deoxy-b-L-uridine has also been found to be cytotoxic against cancer cells and may have antitumor activity. The phosphoramidite form of 3’ azido 3’ deoxy b L uridine can be used for the synthesis of oligonucleotides with high purity and quality.
