Product Information
5-Benzyloxy-L-tryptophan is a drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It enters cells by passive transport and accumulates intracellularly. The mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may be due to a high specificity for amines as opposed to other molecules. 5-Benzyloxy-L-tryptophan inhibits the uptake of fluoroquinolones from the cell membrane and blocks their binding to bacterial enzymes such as DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. It also prevents uptake of amines by inhibiting the activity of transporter proteins in intestinal cells, which leads to an inhibitory effect on cancer cells.
