Fluorescein alkynylamino-ATP is a fluorescent nucleotide analog that is used in molecular biology for the detection of DNA. It is labeled with tetramethylrhodamine, which can be detected using a fluorescence microscope. Fluorescein alkynylamino-ATP is a postsynthetic modification to DNA, which means it is added after the DNA has been synthesized. This molecule can be incorporated into the growing strand by either monoaddition or polymerase extension. Fluorescein alkynylamino-ATP binds to the 3' end of a primer during polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and can be detected using electrophoresis and sequence analysis.
