It is a synthetic nucleoside, which is a modified form of the natural nucleosides adenosine and cytidine. 2',3'-O-Isopropylidene-adenosine-5-N-methylcarbamide inhibits the replication of DNA by binding to the deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate (dNTP) in DNA synthesis.
