It inhibits the replication of HIV and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) by causing chain termination. 5’(R)-C-Methyl-N6-methyladenosine inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis by interacting with the enzyme RNA polymerase, which is required for these processes. The drug also has anticancer activity against human cells in culture, but not against normal cells in culture.
