Description:
Cycloparaphenylene is a molecule with two dianions, which can be reduced to an aromatic ring. It was synthesized by the stepwise addition of pyridinium salt to an o-phenylenediamine derivative. Cycloparaphenylene has been used as a reagent for voltammetry and electron profiles. It also displays fluorescence in dichroism experiments. The cavity in the macrocyclic structure of cycloparaphenylene is able to accommodate various small molecules, such as phenols and amines.
