Product Information
3-(4-(Benzyloxy)phenyl)propanal is an analog of 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde and is used in the synthesis of cisplatin. 3-(4-(Benzyloxy)phenyl)propanal can be synthesized by reacting 4-benzyloxybenzaldehyde with sodium sulfite in acidic medium to yield the corresponding sulfonic acid. This product is soluble in organic solvents with high lipophilicity and is used as a substrate for preparative hplc. It reacts with hydrogen sulfate to form a dithioester, which undergoes hydrolysis to give the corresponding alcohol. The structure of this compound has been shown to be similar to that of a potent cytochrome P450 inhibitor and has been shown to inhibit intestinal CYP3A4 activity. 3-(4-(Benzyloxy)phenyl)propanal also binds to receptors on the cell surface, inhibiting their function.
