Ethyln-(7-methoxy-1-methylpyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolin-3-yl)furan-2-carboxamide is a potent inhibitor of voltage sensitive ion channels. It binds to the pore of the potassium channel and blocks the passage of ions. This causes a decrease in excitability, which can be used to treat convulsions or seizures. The binding affinity of ethyln-(7-methoxy-1-methylpyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolin-3-yl)furan-2-carboxamide for potassium channels is much higher than that of other inhibitors such as 4,4'-diisothiocyanatostilbene diamine (DIDS).
