Product Information
- Cidofovir related compound B
Cidofovir is an antiviral drug that is used in the treatment of patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus, and herpes virus infections. It is a prodrug that is activated by phosphorylation to form its active form, cidofovir diphosphate. Cidofovir inhibits viral DNA synthesis by interacting with viral DNA polymerase, preventing the addition of new nucleotides to the growing strand of viral DNA. This prevents viral replication and transcription, which leads to cell death. Cidofovir has also been shown to be effective against squamous carcinoma cells in vitro and in animal models.
