Product Information
Tauro-β-muricholic acid sodium (TBMA) is a bile acid that is used as a diagnostic agent in nuclear medicine. It is also used to treat malignant diseases of the liver and gallbladder, and also has been used to treat metabolic disorders such as hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. TBMA can be used to diagnose liver cancer by measuring the uptake of TBMA in the liver. This drug functions by binding to nuclear receptors in cells throughout the body. It activates these receptors, which regulates gene expression, leading to cell death. The activation of these receptors may lead to carcinogenesis in some cases. TBMA also activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), which has been shown to inhibit hepatocellular carcinoma cell growth and induce apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells.BR>
