Name:
3-Bromo-4²-fluorobenzophenone
Synonyms:
  • Methanone, (3-Bromophenyl)(4-Fluorophenyl)-
Description:

3-Bromo-4²-fluorobenzophenone is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit collagenase activity. This compound also binds to the active site of the enzyme, which prevents it from digesting certain proteins. 3-Bromo-4²-fluorobenzophenone is an analog of fluoroquinolones, which are well known for their use in treating cancer. The covalent bonding between this agent and its substrate may be reversible, depending on the pH level of the solution. 3-Bromo-4²-fluorobenzophenone has also been shown to have cytotoxic properties against cancer cells. It is currently being researched as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
