4-Sulfamoyl-phenylacetic acid (SPAA) is a potent and selective Cox-2 inhibitor. SPAA has been found to inhibit the polymerase activity of the virus, leading to apoptosis. This drug also inhibits the COX-2 enzyme and prevents the formation of prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators. SPAA has shown inhibitory activities against prostate cancer cells and may be effective in treating prostate cancer. SPAA also inhibits COX-2 enzyme activity in human prostate cancer cells, suggesting that it may be useful for preventing metastasis.
