Weisocyanate is a homologous molecule that has been shown to inhibit the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Weisocyanate inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the cell membrane and forming micelles, which disrupts the lipid bilayer and prevents proton transport across the membrane. The antimicrobial activity of weisocyanate is due to its ability to bind with the lipids on the surface of bacteria, disrupting their structure and inhibiting growth. It has also been shown that weisocyanate can inhibit dendron formation in MRSA, which may contribute to its antimicrobial activity.
