Neorautenol is a natural compound that belongs to the group of phytoalexins. It has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against cancer cells, including MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. Neorautenol inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), by inhibiting the NF-κB pathway. The inhibition of NF-κB is due to a decrease in IκB degradation and an increase in its phosphorylation. This compound also has anticarcinogenic effects and can be used for the prevention of colon cancer. In addition, neorautenol has been shown to have anti-microbial activities against gram positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, which are resistant to antibiotics.
