Sodium 5-(hydrazinecarbonyl)-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate (NECA) is a chemical compound that has been used as a reagent in the study of peptide hormones. It is also a potent vasodilator and has shown to be effective in the treatment of primary pulmonary hypertension, congestive heart failure, and other conditions related to the cardiovascular system. NECA reacts with sodium citrate to form chemiluminescent reaction products, which are then quantified by measuring light emission at 360 nm wavelength. This reaction is proportional to disease activity index and activity index, which are indicators of the severity of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
