1-Iodo-4-N-propylbenzene is a reactive chemical compound with the formula CHCHI. It is a colorless liquid that reacts violently with water and many other compounds. 1-Iodo-4-N-propylbenzene can be used to synthesize naphthalene, ethylene and related chemicals. The molecule was first reported in 1887 by the German chemist Karl August Otto Wemer, who found it in an organic reaction mixture derived from naphthalene and phosphorus pentachloride. 1-Iodo-4-N-propylbenzene can also be used for metathesis reactions, in which two or more molecules are exchanged between two reactants. It has been shown to cleave bonds of aromatic rings with high efficiency. The compound is also photophysical, meaning that it emits light when exposed to ultraviolet radiation.br>
