Ethyl 3,4,5-trimethylpyrrole-2-carboxylate is an organic compound that has a chemical formula of C8H12O3. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and it has a melting point of -50°C. Ethyl 3,4,5-trimethylpyrrole-2-carboxylate has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of myoglobin oxygenation by binding to the heme group and preventing electron transfer from molecular oxygen. It also inhibits the catalytic activity of propionyl chloride in the metabolism of propionic acid. This inhibition occurs through steric hindrance and through formation of a covalent bond with the heme iron atom.
