5-Chloro-1,2,4-thiadiazole is a synthetic heterocyclic compound that has been found to be an efficient nucleophile. It can be used as a reagent in the synthesis of heterocycles and has been shown to react with trichloromethane to form 5-chloro-1,2,4-trithiolane by derivatization. 5-Chloro-1,2,4-thiadiazole also reacts efficiently with primary amines to form 5-chlorothiadiazoles. This reaction is useful for the synthesis of heterocycles such as oxazoles and thiazoles. The reaction is also efficient with amides and phosphonates.
