2,5-Dichlorobenzyl chloride is an anticancer agent that is an organochlorine compound. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by causing cell cycle arrest. 2,5-Dichlorobenzyl chloride inhibits DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. This drug also induces apoptosis and prevents cell proliferation. 2,5-Dichlorobenzyl chloride has a high yield of chloromethylation and can be used as a precursor for other anticancer agents such as dacarbazine, cyclophosphamide, and procarbazine. The chemical structure of 2,5-dichlorobenzyl chloride consists of two phenyl rings connected by a methylene bridge with two chlorine atoms attached to each ring at the 3 position. The protocatechuic acid moiety is a phenolic acid found in many plants including apples, grapes, berries, tomatoes, broccoli, tea leaves, wine grapes and
