Metiazinic acid is a biocompatible polymer that can be used as an anti-infective agent. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes, such as hydrochloric acid, which is involved in the production of inflammatory mediators. Metiazinic acid also has an inhibitory effect on the growth of bacteria and fungi by disrupting their cell membranes and inhibiting protein synthesis. This drug can be administered topically or intravenously. The current study investigated how the polymer could be used to treat skin cancer and choroidal neovascularization (a condition that involves abnormal blood vessels in the eye). The polymer was applied to areas of skin that were exposed to ultraviolet radiation, with one group receiving a placebo cream while another received metiazinic acid cream. After 10 weeks, there was a significant decrease in tumor size in those who had been treated with metiazinic acid compared to those who had received a placebo.
