The cisplatin form interacts with DNA by binding to the nitrogen atoms in the carboxylate groups of the nucleotide bases, forming adducts with apical chloride and 6-aminonicotinic acid. The transplatin form interacts with DNA by binding to the nitrogen atoms in the carboxylate groups of the nucleotide bases, forming adducts with apical chloride and deuterated 6-aminonicotinic acid.
