2-(2-Chlorophenyl)-1,3-benzothiazole (CTZ) is a drug that has been shown to have antifungal effects. CTZ is an anticancer agent and it can be used for the treatment of cancer. It is a cytotoxic drug with significant cytotoxicity against tumour cell lines. CTZ also has antibacterial activity and is used as an antibiotic in veterinary medicine and to treat bacterial infections in humans. The mechanism of action of CTZ involves damaging DNA and inhibiting protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes. In addition, CTZ inhibits carbonic anhydrase II, which leads to metabolic acidosis and damages the mitochondria.
