8-(2-Amino-1-methyl-D3-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridyl-2'-deoxyguanosine) is a modified nucleoside that is used as an antiviral agent. It is not active against DNA viruses but has been shown to inhibit the replication of RNA viruses such as human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV). 8-(2-Amino-1-methyl-D3-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridyl)-2'-deoxyguanosine has been found to be more effective than acyclovir (Zovirax), a commonly used antiviral drug. This nucleoside also has anticancer properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA.
