1-Benzyl-2-methylimidazole is a monomer that is used in the production of polymers. It has a hydrochloric acid group and an inhibitory effect on enzymes. The molecule can be activated by reacting it with a metal such as palladium, which causes the release of hydrogen gas, and then reacts with an organic acid to form an ester. The optical properties of 1-benzyl-2-methylimidazole are determined by its phosphate group. This monomer has been used in the synthesis of microcapsules for drug delivery systems, which have shown kinetic and structural analysis properties. 1-Benzyl-2-methylimidazole has been studied for its ability to inhibit enzyme activity, namely chymotrypsin, carboxypeptidase A, and aminopeptidase N.
