2-tert-Butyl-6-(3-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)-4-methoxyphenol is a water soluble, nonionic surfactant that is used in the laboratory to monitor the distribution of organic solvents and other volatile substances in tissues. It is a labelling agent that can be used to identify unlabelled compounds in biological samples. The solubility of 2B6MMPH is high in water, chloride, and unlabelled solvents. This compound has been shown to be covalently bound to epithelial cells, kidneys, and intestines when administered intragastrically or by injection. Solvent detection limits are 0.1 μg/mL for chloroform and 0.01 μg/mL for acetone (see Table 1).
