Applications (1R)-1-Phenyl-1,3-propanediol is used in the synthesis and characterization of cytochrome P450 3A-activated prodrugs which are useful for targeting phosph(on)ate-based drugs to liver. It is also used in the synthesis of 1,3-diols by diarylprolinol-catalyzed aldol reaction of acetaldehyde with aldehydes followed by reduction.
