Beschreibung: 3-Methyl-1-butanol, auch bekannt als Isoamylalkohol, ist ein verzweigter Alkohol mit der chemischen Formel C5H12O. Er weist eine Hydroxylgruppe (-OH) auf, die an ein Butan-Gerüst gebunden ist, spezifisch am ersten Kohlenstoff, mit einer Methylgruppe am dritten Kohlenstoff. Diese Verbindung ist eine farblose Flüssigkeit mit einem charakteristischen Geruch, der an Bananen oder Birnen erinnert. Sie hat einen relativ niedrigen Siedepunkt und ist in Wasser löslich, obwohl ihre Löslichkeit mit zunehmender Kettenlänge bei Alkoholen abnimmt. 3-Methyl-1-butanol wird in verschiedenen Anwendungen eingesetzt, unter anderem als Lösungsmittel, in der Herstellung von Aromen und Düften sowie als Zwischenprodukt in der organischen Synthese.
