Dihydrostreptomycin ist ein Aminoglykosid-Antibiotikum, das aus dem Bakterium Streptomyces griseus gewonnen wird. Es wird hauptsächlich zur Behandlung verschiedener bakterieller Infektionen eingesetzt, insbesondere solcher, die durch Mycobacterium tuberculosis verursacht werden. Die Verbindung zeigt ein breites Wirkungsspektrum gegen gramnegative und einige grampositive Bakterien, indem sie die Proteinsynthese durch Bindung an die 30S ribosomale Untereinheit hemmt. Dihydrostreptomycin zeichnet sich durch seine relativ geringe Löslichkeit in Wasser aus, was seine Pharmakokinetik und Bioverfügbarkeit beeinflussen kann. Es wird typischerweise durch Injektion verabreicht, da die orale Absorption schlecht ist.
