    <p>PF 05175157 is a potent small molecule, orally active inhibitor of fatty acid synthase (FAS) that causes hepatocyte steatosis in vitro and in vivo. PF 05175157 is also an inhibitor of the enzyme stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1), which converts saturated to monounsaturated fatty acids. The compound has been shown to reduce liver and body weight gain in mice fed a high-fat diet, as well as to improve dyslipidemia and hepatic steatosis. PF 05175157 has been evaluated clinically for the treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. PF 05175157 was granted orphan drug designation for the treatment of pediatric chronic kidney disease by the FDA on June 6, 2015.</p>
