Beschreibung:
Heptan ist ein gerade kettenförmiges Alkan mit der chemischen Formel C7H16, das durch seine sieben Kohlenstoffatome und die entsprechenden Wasserstoffatome gekennzeichnet ist. Es ist eine farblose, brennbare Flüssigkeit bei Raumtemperatur, mit einem charakteristischen Geruch, der an Benzin erinnert. Heptan ist in Wasser unlöslich, aber in organischen Lösungsmitteln löslich, was es in verschiedenen Anwendungen nützlich macht, einschließlich als unpolares Lösungsmittel in Laboren und als Referenzstandard in Oktanzahltests für Kraftstoffe. Sein Siedepunkt ist im Vergleich zu größeren Alkanen relativ niedrig, und es weist einen hohen Dampfdruck auf, was zu seiner Flüchtigkeit beiträgt.
