This process leads to the formation of a spirocyclic intermediate, which then undergoes dehydrogenation and alkylation reactions. The resulting product is an oxalyl-containing molecule that inhibits the synthesis of DNA. Bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]pentafluorobenzene has also been shown to have anti-cancer activity in mice with leukemia.
