Tavaborol ist ein borhaltiges Antimykotikum, das hauptsächlich zur Behandlung von Onychomykose, einer Pilzinfektion der Nägel, eingesetzt wird. Es wirkt, indem es das Enzym Leucyl-tRNA-Synthetase hemmt, das für die Proteinsynthese in Pilzen entscheidend ist, und stört somit deren Wachstum und Fortpflanzung. Tavaborol zeichnet sich durch seine einzigartige chemische Struktur aus, die ein Boratom enthält, das eine Schlüsselrolle in seinem Wirkmechanismus spielt.
